Demont “Peekaso” Pinder

“The Nobody That Everybody Knows!”

Considering himself “the nobody that everybody knows,” Demont Peekaso Pinder, is hardly anonymous. As the art director and silent, but vibrant, member of JIVE recording artist Raheem DeVaughn’s band, Peekaso’s presence is loud. Using his self-taught gift of painting, Peekaso has blessed the lives of many, celebrity and around the way folk alike. Using his paint brush as his pen and his canvas as his pad, he creates stories whose impact will be felt for years to come; however, this isn’t where his story begins.

Born in Queens, New York, Peekaso and his family moved to Maryland when he was only 9 years old. The youngest of four children, he was provided the opportunity and avenue to express himself freely; whether it was on his family’s walls or on his clothing, he was always found “letting it all out.”

Inspired by his cousin Rashon during their back and forth artist tags, Peekaso realized that his fun and games as a child actually had an impact on others. Through his art, he could make the least flattering kid in school the most flashy, the saddest girl happy, his mama proud, and himself satisfied. He took ordinary articles of clothing and added his own artistic touch, thus creating high fashion that everyone soon wanted to adorn themselves with, though most he gave away as gifts and tokens of appreciation. Before long, he realized that others loved and appreciated his art as much as he loved creating it. This validation of his ability assured him that he could turn what he loved into his own business. It was in that moment that he realized his gift was not at all his, but a gift from God.

The belief of being God’s artistic puppet has been the catalyst to keep Peekaso focused on the mission at hand–being a voice for the silenced, muscles for the weak, a hand for the unappreciated, and a leg for others to stand on. He has donated his time, talent and paintings to benefit many local and national charities. He has helped beautify local elementary schools by creating murals for them. He painted and sold sneakers to help raise awareness and money to give needy children new shoes for school in the Maryland, DC and Virginia region. He created and auctioned off two paintings to help raise funds for a Maryland youth to have the opportunity to go to Europe the summer of 2010. And he helps memorialize those that have been senselessly slain or has passed away by creating a memorial masterpiece which he donates to their respective families.

Most recently, after completing the 2010 20-city Budweiser Superfest Tour with Grammy-Nominated, R&B Singer Raheem DeVaughn (and other  Performers Anthony Hamilton, Jaheim, Hal Linton, Abraham McDonald and Kem), Peekaso accompanied Raheem and the USO throughout Europe creating and bringing Art to hundreds of U.S. troops and their families stationed in Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.  This 8-day, 4-country USO entertainment tour, enabled Peekaso to visit with hundreds of U.S. troops and their families at five military bases. Among the places visited were Royal Air Force Menwith Hill, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Joint Force Command Brunssum, Spangdahlem Air Base and Ramstein Air Base.

In addition to creating Art on canvas, Peekaso has recently discovered expressing his Art via his iPad (courtesy of Apple), dubbing himself “iPeekaso.” As seen on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, Peekaso created the 1st televised, live iPad presentation during Raheem’s TV appearance/performance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtUaggY19_Y).

Since this performance, Demont has mastered the iPad and is now able to display his Live Artwork via projector and monitors.

To date, Peekaso is famous for creating many masterpieces for many celebrities and movers and shakers, including President George W. Bush who issued him a letter of recognition in 2008 after receiving a Demont Peekaso Pinder original. His works have adorned the likes of Patti Labelle, Anthony Hamilton, Eric Robeson, Russel Simmons and far too many more to mention. He painted alongside Raheem DeVaughn on the Monique Show, Ellen, Jay Leno, Jimmel Kimmel, Fox 5 DC and FOX 45 News. He’s been featured in many magazines and newspapers, and has graced the cover of Dub Magazine, the DMX issue.
